Research has revealed regional disparities between councils across the UK and the number of electric vehicles in their fleets.

Based on Freedom of Information (FoI) data, Geotab found that Bristol’s local authorities possess the highest percentage of electric fleet vehicles (44.5%), with Transport for London (TfL) scoring the lowest (3.2%).
Further cities with large proportions of electric vehicles in their councils’ fleets are Liverpool (43.3%), Leeds (27.8%) and Manchester (26.8%), the data found.
According to Geotab, the results revealed a ‘fragmented approach to local authority fleet decarbonisation’, with the disparity in advancement creating risk of an ‘electrification divide’.
Geotab warned that this could have climate-related repercussions, as well as impacting service delivery and air quality.
‘The divide also highlights more than just different decarbonisation speeds; it represents a significant gap in operational and financial efficiency’, says Geotab.
