Dennis Eagle’s eagerly anticipated all-electric refuse collection vehicle (eRCV) – the eCollect – went into service with the first customers in the last quarter of 2020.

It is the first eRCV in the world to be designed and built by an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and it is totally integrated, with both the Dennis Eagle chassis and body and Terberg bin lift all originally designed to work together.

The 26-tonne vehicles have already begun operations with Nottingham City Council, Islington Council and Greater Cambridge Shared Waste Service.

And feedback from the first operators has been highly positive, with Nottingham’s assistant manager (fleet) Andrew Smith reporting: ‘Both our eCollects are in operation and are out-performing the diesels they replaced. In the first few weeks we have had these two vehicles in operation we have saved around 60 to 70 litres of diesel per truck per day. And the drivers love them.’
