Located at The Turnpike, the purpose-built facility will house over 250 staff and include a modern workshop dedicated to maintaining the council’s diverse fleet, from waste collection vehicles to housing repair vans. Key services relocating from the outdated Alexandra Road site include bin collection, street cleansing, parks maintenance, and housing repairs.

Construction, led by Lindum Group, has already seen 150 tonnes of steel erected, 2,650m³ of concrete poured, and 7,600m² of asphalt laid. The main building’s steel frame, brickwork, and roof are complete, with internal fit-out and service yard works progressing quickly.

Designed with sustainability, efficiency, and future service expansion in mind, the depot addresses long-standing challenges such as limited space, poor access, and ageing infrastructure at the current site. The new base will improve operational efficiency, reduce downtime for vehicle maintenance, and enhance working conditions for staff.

Handover is scheduled for 30 October, with a go-live date of 1 December, marking a significant milestone in delivering high-quality fleet management facilities for the district.

South Kesteven DC’s Cabinet Member for Property and Public Engagement, Cllr Richard Cleaver, said: ‘We are delighted to report that strong progress is being made in the delivery of this fit-for-the-future facility which will allow for service expansion and meet the needs of a growing population in a way that Alexandra Road no longer can.

‘It isn’t long now until we take delivery of the new depot, which as well as being future-proofed, sustainable, energy efficient and efficient in service delivery, will improve welfare and working conditions for our brilliant staff.’
