The eight-year contract, which begins in April, will include recycling and waste collection, street cleansing and winter maintenance services.

Veolia said it would also support the local authority to prepare for upcoming legislation like Simpler Recycling.

A dedicated night-time collection service will also be introduced for flats above shops.

Veolia Municipal managing director Pascal Hauret said: ‘We are thrilled to be continuing our partnership with Croydon Council as their environmental services provider.

‘We look forward to building on the successes of the previous eight years whilst implementing new initiatives to improve recycling rates and street cleanliness in the borough.’
