Douglas City Council has upgraded its waste collection vehicle following a surge in recycling rates last year.

In place of its previous waste collection truck, the council has acquired a Romaquip Kerb-Sort vehicle that is equipped to collect six different waste materials.
The new vehicle has already hit the streets of Douglas and is expected to increase the efficiency of local waste collection services.
Based on council data, local recycling rates increased from around 5% to 'an in year high of 28%' between 2022 and 2025, which the local authority associates with its switch from weekly to fortnightly waste collection services and the introduction of a garden waste service in 2022.
Cllr Falk Horning, Chairman of the Environmental Services Committee, said the ‘progress aligns with the Isle of Man’s Net Zero ambitions’, reflecting the local authority’s ‘commitment to the Island’s UNESCO Biosphere status’.
