These additions are part of a broader initiative to modernise and decarbonise the council's infrastructure, supported by funding from the Decarbonisation Initiatives Fund.

The new electric vehicles will assist property technicians in their daily operations, contributing to a reduction of 7.7 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

This move complements the council's existing fleet, which includes electric sweepers, non-road electric machinery, and six electric vans, all aimed at enhancing service delivery while minimising environmental impact.

Cllr David Taylor, Cabinet Member for Operations, expressed enthusiasm about the transition, highlighting benefits such as improved air quality and a better driving experience for staff.

Cllr Gerald Kelly, Cabinet Member for Governance, Regulatory and Environment, emphasised the alignment of this initiative with the council's long-term sustainability goals.
