The charging point at Henbury Way Car Park is one of two that will be introduced at council-owned car parks, with site locations decided based on ‘several technical factors’, such as the ‘electricity grid infrastructure’.

In a statement, the council confirmed that the project is funded by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, as part of its On-street Residential ChargePoint Scheme.

The council also revealed that more sites will be rolled out shortly, with EV company Blink Charging leading the installation process.

EV motorist and leader of the council, Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst, said: ‘This is great news and the first step in a project that I know will be hugely welcome news to motorists across Three Rivers. You can now park in our car parks and charge your cars at the same time.

‘As a council, we are dedicated to reducing carbon emission in the district and having these new EV points in another key step in the right direction.’

‘Providing this infrastructure enables Three Rivers district residents and visitors to use an EV even if they don’t have the ability to charge at home’, he added.
