Refuse Vehicle Solutions (RVS) has delivered the world's first-ever refurbished and repowered twin pack refuse vehicle to Islington Council, marking a revolutionising breakthrough in the waste industry.

Following a recent site expansion, RVS, which specialises in recycling and re-powering fossil-fuelled vehicles, are focused on meeting the increasing demand for its conversion process with a solution that can turn just about any existing vehicle into an environmentally friendly, hard-working and powerful zero-emissions machine.

The former Dennis Elite 6 vehicle with a Dennis Olympus twin pack body is one of many that will be retrofitted with electric capabilities as part of Islington Council's response to climate change.

Cllr Rowena Champion, Islington Council's Executive Member for Environment and Transport, said: ‘The climate emergency is a pressing issue, and it's clear that urgent action is needed to ensure that present and future generations can live healthy, independent lives.

‘That is why the council has worked tirelessly to create a cleaner, greener, healthier borough. The ongoing electrification of our fleet is a key aspect of our ambitions to create a net zero carbon borough by the year 2030.

‘The unveiling of Islington's first retrofitted electric vehicle is a symbol of our innovative, forward-thinking approach to tackling the climate emergency. We have been able to work positively with Refuse Vehicle Solutions on this project, which will help bring cleaner air to Islington's streets.’

TPPL was used to help obtain the electric conversion vehicle through Refuse Vehicle Solutions.

Commenting on Islington's new vehicle, the Director of Operations, Mick Martin, said: ‘We are delighted that TPPL were able to facilitate Islington Council via our PCR 2015 compliant framework to procure the first-ever refurbished and repowered electric twin pack refuse vehicle. This is a positive step forward in reducing carbon emissions across the waste collection industry, and helping the UK reach its 2050 net zero emissions target.’

Refuse Vehicle Solutions is not just taking the world of electric vehicles by storm; they are changing the industry's perceptions about what an electric vehicle can do. With only state-of-the-art technology used during the refurbishing and repowering process, there are no compromises made with safety or reliability,

‘Our technology is the only solution on the market today that enables operators to convert their existing fleet into an all-electric fleet without sacrificing performance or safety,’ said RVS’ Managing Director Spencer Law.

With an advanced battery pack system that is designed specifically for the needs of these types of vehicles, RVS provides a perfect solution for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

In a world where the average lifespan of refuse vehicles is just 5-7 years, RVS has been able to make sure existent fleets are running better and more efficiently than brand new. Whether it's electrics or hydraulics, RVS craftsmanship and unrivalled standard of excellence have made them one-of-a-kind in this industry.
