The assets are being introduced by the council’s collections contractor, SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, with some of the vehicles already operating across the local authority’s garden waste collection service.

Branded with catchy slogans encouraging residents to recycle, the new lorries will serve as replacements for the council’s 2016 vehicles that are reaching the end of their lifespans.

Due to their Euro 6 category engines, the lorries are equipped with ‘advanced emission control technologies’, as well as particulate filters and catalytic reduction systems.

The vehicles are also fitted with electric bin lifts which allow for a ‘quick and quieter’ operation process and include advanced safety features.

Matthew Canning, SUEZ Contract Director for Somerset, said: ‘Our new vehicles have some great new features - they are safer, cleaner and more efficient. All this helps us to further improve our already excellent service. While upgrading our equipment over time is essential, it’s important not to lose sight of our key message - that we should reduce, reuse and recycle as much as we can to benefit the county.’

Cllr Richard Wilkins, Somerset Council’s Executive Member for Transport and Waste Services, added: ‘We are delighted to see the rollout of these new, fuel-efficient vehicles. The advanced features of these vehicles, such as lower emissions, improved safety, and quieter operation, will not only help us protect the environment but also ensure a more reliable and efficient collection service.’
