Derby City Council has added a brand-new, fully electric street sweeper — the Green Machine 400ze — to its fleet, boosting cleaning in the city centre with zero emissions and ultra-quiet performance.
The sweeper has the same power as traditional diesel models but none of the fumes or loud engines, enabling it to operate early in the morning without disturbing local residents or businesses, according to the council.
Its compact size allows it to reach narrow and newly-paved areas like Springwell Square and the Market Hall, while its built-in dust-suppression system ensures a high standard of cleanliness.
Cllr Ndukwe Onuoha, Cabinet Member for Streetpride, Public Safety and Leisure, said: ‘Investing in modern, greener equipment like this electric sweeper is another step forward in keeping our streets clean while supporting our wider environmental goals.
‘It's quiet, zero-emission operation makes it ideal for our city centre, ensuring Derby remains a pleasant, welcoming place for everyone.’
