The local authority recently submitted a planning application for its proposals, which involve the demolition of the industrial site on Culwell Street, as well as the development of a new depot on Hickman Avenue.

In a recent statement, the council confirmed that the redevelopment project is expected to improve both the efficiency and sustainability of its fleet operations.

According to Cllr Bhupinder Gakhal, City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for Resident Services, the Hickman Avenue scheme will ‘lead to reduced energy costs and asset maintenance’, whilst assisting the ‘transition of the council’s combustion engine fleet to EV.’

‘It is also a critical step in bringing forward the regeneration of a strategically important brownfield site through the Brewers Yard scheme to deliver huge benefits in terms of jobs, investment and homes that will help rejuvenate our city centre’, he added.

If the council is granted planning approval, the demolition of its current site could begin in winter 2025, with a view to start construction early next year.
