Four electric heavy goods vehicles have joined Brighton and Hove City Council’s refuse and recycling service.

Three refuse collection vehicles (RCVs) will take to the streets along with a top-loading truck for glass collections.
Brighton hopes the new vehicles will make collections more resilient after significant service disruption.
The new RCVs are connected via SIM to the manufacturer, Terberg/Ros Roca, which can run diagnostics and repair vehicles remotely.
A further two electric communal refuse vehicles will enter service next month, replacing some of the oldest trucks in the fleet.
The local authority is also set to install new electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at its depot, which it said would give it the most charging points at a publicly owned depot in the south east.
Cabinet member for transport, parking and public realm Trevor Muten said: ‘The new infrastructure and EVs are an important part of our commitment to improving air quality and improving the health and wellbeing of residents.’
Brighton now has 72 EVs in operation, with two more electric RCVs arriving later this year.
