Shifting away from their previous manual operation methods, the local authority’s introduction of the software created by Velociti Solutions Ltd will allow for more intricate route mapping, timetabling and data processing.

Ken Gowans, Chair of The Highland Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee, said: ‘Previously, we relied on spreadsheets, which are time-consuming and more prone to human error.’

‘Using software specifically designed for the industry ensures we can create efficient routes and timetables that meet the needs of passengers with ease, giving us more time to focus on improvement plans.’

The local authority’s investment in the Omnibus software suite is reflective of their commitment to the ‘ongoing growth’ of their transport operations, Ken added.

The council’s digital advancements follow the recent expansion of their fleet, which has seen the addition of 20 new vehicles since 2023, enabling the development of local school bus routes, whilst also improving communication across regional transport networks.
