Two Lincolnshire councils have approved plans to buy 41 new bin lorries in preparation for the introduction of weekly food waste collections.

East Lindsey District Council has signed off on the purchase of 27 new food waste collection vehicles, while Boston Borough Council has approved an order for 14 new trucks with integrated food waste collection pods.
The move supports the requirements of the Environment Act 2021 and its Simpler Recycling reforms, which mandate separate weekly food waste collections for all households starting in April 2026.
Cllr Martin Foster, Portfolio Holder for Operational Services, said: ‘This is a vital step for East Lindsey. We are meeting our environmental responsibilities while delivering a practical and cost-effective solution for residents. It's not just about meeting targets - it's about making a meaningful difference to how we manage waste and protect our environment for the future.’
Cllr Callum Butler, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, added: ‘By investing in modern, integrated vehicles and supporting residents through the transition, we're ensuring we can deliver a high-quality, cost-effective service that meets legal requirements and supports our environmental goals. This is about doing what's right for our communities and our streets, across the whole borough.’
