The new vehicle, which replaces a diesel version, has a solar panel on the roof to power equipment and includes messaging about air quality and sustainability.
It joins 33 electric vehicles in Lambeth Council’s fleet and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 2,500kg per year.
It was bought through the council’s net zero innovation fund, which finances projects that demonstrate collaboration across departments.
The bus travels to community events across the borough, staffed by ‘health champions’ who offer services including blood pressure checks, mental health support, and welfare advice.
The service is run by Lambeth Together, a partnership of the NHS, local authority, and voluntary sector.
Cabinet member for sustainable Lambeth and clean air, Rezina Chowdhury, said: ‘It is crucial that we reduce the amount of toxic emissions produced by vehicles on the road in order to protect the health of everyone in Lambeth, so it’s great to see more of our fleet switching from petrol or diesel vehicles to electric vehicles.’
