Gloucestershire County Council has launched a new initiative to improve the appearance of streets, verges and neighbourhoods across the county.

The scheme, called Clean Sweep, will see contractors tasked with removing redundant road signs and equipment left behind after works, cleaning signs and bollards, ensuring signage is correctly positioned, clearing weeds from gullies and sweeping debris.
Announced at the first meeting of the council’s new administration, the programme has been identified as a key priority for the year ahead.
Council leader Cllr Lisa Spivey said the scheme was about restoring pride in local areas.
‘Residents often contact me about signs left for weeks, months and even years. It makes our county look untidy and uncared for,’ she said. ‘We want to support residents to keep Gloucestershire clean and tidy – this initiative is a great start.’
