The system uses wide-angle AI cameras mounted on vehicles to detect oncoming traffic up to 30 metres away, and triggers warning lights at the rear to alert operatives before they exit into a live lane.

Developed in partnership with public-services operator Serco — following a serious safety incident — LLIS replaces traditional after-the-fact protection with real-time hazard detection, helping prevent collisions or near-misses.

Reflecting on the award, George Roach, Performance and Compliance Director at Serco, said: ‘The idea for LLIS began after a close call involving one of our loaders. It was a moment that reminded us that the people behind every service deserve to go home safely. To see that initial idea grow into a nationally recognised innovation is incredibly rewarding and a testament to the collaboration between our teams and Fleetclear.’
