Denbighshire County Council’s electric minibuses have collectively completed over one hundred thousand miles of greener transport.
The local authority’s green Fflecsi service serves rural areas in both Ruthin and Denbigh, with the former providing Wales’ first zero emission battery-operated 16-seat minibus as a transport option, and the latter supporting residents’ travel needs with an accessible, electric four passenger seat vehicle.
According to the council, the two electric vehicles operating across the Ruthin and Denbigh services have ‘racked up enough greener miles for almost five round the world trips’ since their introduction in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
While Denbigh’s electric vehicle (EV) has completed roughly 52,000 greener miles, the total for Ruthin’s EV minibus is almost 74,000.
As part of the flexible service, residents can book trips on the Fflecsi app and the fflecsi.wales website, or by phoning a call centre, up to one hour in advance of their journeys.
Cllr Barry Mellor, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: ‘Our fleet has worked hard to reduce reliance on fossil fuel powered vehicles to help lower our carbon emissions across the county.
‘These two elective transport vehicles are not only providing less emissions whilst on the road, but they have really given Ruthin and Denbigh residents of all ages a helping flexible hand when it comes to getting on with their daily lives around each of the towns and surrounding area.
‘Its great to see people embracing these two services and taking advantage of the electric powered transport and I would encourage anyone who maybe struggling to get out and about to give Fflecsi a go.’
