The local authority has taken action to improve Environmental Services since the publication of the KC report 18 months ago, which was produced following investigations into allegations of discrimination, sexual harassment and bullying in the workplace.

The meeting will discuss progress made since the council’s implementation of the Culture Change Programme, an action plan which seeks to ‘reestablish psychological safety’ through disciplinary measures and behavioural supervision of managers and staff.

Council leader Bella Sankey said: ‘Our staff deserve a safe working environment free from intimidation and our residents deserve an excellent service and we will do everything necessary to deliver both.’

‘Because of the culture and systemic under-investment, long standing service development issues have not been prioritised. I’m really pleased to see we’re now in a place where they can be addressed’, she added.

Despite the council’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy to unacceptable workplace conduct at Environmental Services, the meeting will address remaining performance issues such as ‘counter-cultural behaviours’ amongst staff that hinder reliable service delivery.
