Blackburn with Darwen Council has named two of its gritting vehicles after local stars.
The announcement last week saw the council reveal that one of its vehicles would be called AJ Snow-dudu, in recognition of Big Brother presenter and previous Strictly contestant AJ Odudu, who was born and raised in Blackburn.
The second vehicle has been named Graham and Leanne’s Grit on the Side, after the BBC Radio Lancashire podcast.
According to the council, the move ensures the local media figures are ‘honoured in a uniquely Lancashire way’.
It is a development of the council’s Part of Your Story campaign and supports the initiative’s aims of celebrating the work that keeps residents safe each day.
AJ, Graham, and Leanne have all expressed their excitement about the announcement, which was unveiled at a photocall event at the council’s depot.
Deputy Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, Cllr Julie Gunn said the practice of gritter naming helps the council to ‘connect residents with an essential service’.
She added: ‘Our gritters are out day and night during winter, often without people seeing the work they do.
‘Giving them names that residents recognise and smile about is a great way to shine a spotlight on the service – and to celebrate people who have strong connections to our borough.’
