Lewes District Council has introduced five new electric waste collection vehicles into its fleet as part of its ‘Environment First’ waste service.
The addition of the IVECO eDaily (42S14e) 4.25t waste collectors advances the council’s carbon reduction and net zero aims by supporting its transition to a fully electric fleet.
Powered by three modular batteries, the wheelbase eDaily vehicles can cover a range of up to 186 miles.
The waste collection units are powered by the eDaily’s low voltage ePTO option and therefore do not rely on external batteries or generators.
Features such as heated and adjustable electric mirrors, a suspended driver’s comfort seat, an infotainment system with navigation, and front fog lamps have been fitted to decrease driver fatigue.
Safety compliance is also enhanced by the 360-degree camera system, audible reverse alarm, and front-and-rear lighting options.
The council worked alongside Northern Commercials to deliver vehicle specifications that enhance safety standards, productivity, and total ownership costs.
Mike Cutts, Business Line Director Full Range UK & RIO at IVECO UK, said: ‘This fleet is a prime example of the DNA baked into the IVECO eDaily, which is decarbonising fleets without compromising on functionality. Congratulations to Lewes District Council and Northern Commercials on these mission-ready vehicles.’
