Worcestershire County Council recently hosted two local schools at its gritting depot to boost their knowledge about the service.
Arranged by the council and its contractor, Ringway, the visit was designed to inform the students about topics such as recycling, road safety, and the local authority’s winter maintenance service.
During their time at the Stanford Depot, students were able to take a closer look at the council’s gritters and sound the horn of a stationary vehicle, as well as explore the salt barn and operate the snow plough.
Cllr Karl Perks, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Highways and Transport at Worcestershire County Council, said: ‘Our road gritters play a vital role in keeping Worcestershire moving safely during winter, and this visit was a great way to show children the work that goes on behind the scenes.’
Mrs Kelly Rodriguez, Vice Principal of Lickhill Primary School, added that the children thoroughly enjoyed the day and said they will be sharing their experiences at the pupil agency conference later in the year.
