Following a £64,000 investment, the council has secured two industrial compact vacuums and one industrial sweeper machine, backed by £100,000 funding from the Healing the High Street project for town centre support.

The ‘Green Machines’ equipment will assist the council’s environmental team with debris collection in the town centre, as well as villages and parishes in Boston.

Alongside the gains in efficiency, with the zero-emission electric machines also support the council’s ‘commitment to sustainability and cleaner, greener streets’, according to Cllr Callum Butler, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services.

In a statement, the local authority explained that the move is intended to help minimise ‘prolonged manual sweeping’, while the ‘lightweight and agile’ design of the machines will enable the team to clean areas that are otherwise difficult to reach by hand.

Claire Foster, Interim Chair of Boston Town Board, added: ‘We know from the consultation that we've carried out that the appearance and cleanliness of Boston really matters to local people.

‘We're pleased to be able to make this investment which reflects what we've heard from the public, and we look forward to seeing the impact the machines will make in the town.’
