The vehicles, which replace diesel vans, have batteries that can be charged overnight to run for 65km, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council said.

BCP’s head of transport and sustainable travel, Richard Pincroft, said: ‘It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to improve air quality, reduce congestion, and encourage eco-friendly, sustainable transport for both work and leisure purposes.’

The unitary authority was granted £120,000 from the Government’s air quality fund, which it spent on the vehicles, its schools clean air project and an educational film about air pollution.
