Falkirk Council has taken delivery of a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) training truck to upskill staff.

The Scottish local authority said the new vehicle would enable its qualified driver trainer to provide direct HGV instruction, reducing reliance on external training providers and cutting costs.

It said the vehicle would also create opportunities to provide training with neighbouring authorities and create partnerships with the private sector.

Falkirk also hopes to introduce certificate of professional competence training for drivers next year.

Deputy council leader Paul Garner said: ‘This is an exciting step forward for Falkirk Council.

‘By investing in our own HGV training vehicle, we’re not only ensuring that our staff have access to the best possible training and development opportunities, but we’re also leading the way in delivering cost-effective and high-quality services across the board.’
