Suffolk CC welcomes 11 new modern fire engines

Eleven new fire engines have been added to Suffolk County Council’s fleet, following an investment of over £3m into the region’s emergency services.

Backed by a £3.6m cash boost, the move is part of Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service’s long-term fleet replacement programme, with the new vehicles serving as upgrades for some of its older equipment.

The 16-tonne Type B pumping appliances have been built by ‘Emergency One’ on Volvo FL816 chassis and are fit to respond to a vast range of incidents.

According to the council, the change aims to provide firefighters with more modern vehicles that possess the newest operational and safety features.

These enhancements include touchscreen pump controls, LED scene lighting, hot hand wash units, tyre pressure monitoring, blind spot collision alerts, automated ladder head gantries and bronze water pumps.

Cllr Tristan Gale, Suffolk County Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning, Devolution and the Fire Service, said: ‘Keeping the people of Suffolk safe is a fundamental responsibility of ours, and these new fire engines represent a significant investment in the future of Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service.

‘This replacement programme demonstrates the value of long-term planning and our commitment to ensuring firefighters have the modern, reliable equipment they need to protect communities safely and effectively.’
