Hull receives double shortlist for recycling excellence

Hull City Council has been recognised for its achievements in recycling as it is shortlisted for two MRW National Recycling Awards.

The awards celebrate excellence, innovation, and achievement in the recycling and resource management sector, with winners due to be announced on December 1.

Categories in which the council has been selected are the Local Authority Success and Campaign of the Year.

The acknowledgement comes as a result of the council’s delivery of an educational-led recycling programme and city-wide communications and marketing campaign.

According to the local authority, these initiatives have ‘supported the successful roll-out of Simpler Recycling in Hull’.

They involve the use of education, digital tools and engagement – for example, through the Simpler Recycling website, a waste web app, and targeted campaigns – to promote a long-term shift in behaviour which coincides with the Government’s reforms.

Cllr Charles Quinn, cabinet portfolio holder for environment at Hull City Council said: ‘We are incredibly proud to be shortlisted for two MRW National Recycling Awards – our second shortlist this year.

‘We want to make recycling as easy as possible for our residents, and these initiatives are helping us drive behaviour change and build the foundations for a more environmentally responsible city for future generations.

‘Being recognised on a national stage is a fantastic achievement and reflects our commitment to delivering a high-quality service that is simple, and easy for residents to engage with.’
