RCV rollout across East Riding of Yorkshire

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is expanding its fleet with 38 new refuse collection vehicles (RCVs) from Dennis Eagle.

The Elite+ vehicles are equipped with 6×2 mid-steer chassis, Olympus 21 bodies, and OmniDEL electric bin lifts, supporting the council in operating efficiently across the 920 square miles of its collection area.

Following the purchase of the vehicles, the council has now bought over 150 RCVs from Dennis Eagle since 2012, with the new additions joining its current 86-asset RCV fleet. Some of the vehicles are already operating in the area, while others are due to be delivered over the next four years.

The new vehicles will ensure improved performance across long distances through features such as onboard weighing and soft pack options, as well as bespoke adaptations including front spray suppression and the installation of defibrillators.

Training on how to operate the equipment is available for East Riding technicians through Dennis Eagle, supporting the skills and safety standards that are valued by the local authority.

Graphics will also be used on the outside of the vehicles to promote awareness of the correct recycling practices for batteries and food waste.

Phil Burgess, Fleet Services Manager for East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: ‘Safety is a non-negotiable for us, so we go over and above the standard spec of vehicle with requirements that put the protection of our people and the wider community first’.

He added that Dennis Eagle provides the council with a ‘single point of contact, not only enabling us to have open, honest conversations, but ensuring any concerns or challenges are dealt with quickly and efficiently’.
