Bolton Council plans fleet renewal for street sweepers

Bolton Council has outlined proposals to procure new large mechanical sweepers to support its statutory street cleansing service, according to a recent report.

The report highlights that the current fleet, last purchased in 2015 and delivered in 2016, has exceeded its recommended operational lifespan. As a result, vehicles are becoming less efficient, with rising maintenance costs and increasing difficulty sourcing replacement parts.

Council officers note that three frontline sweepers are required to maintain a borough-wide cleaning schedule, with one of the vehicles in its current fleet being retained to provide resilience during maintenance or breakdowns.

The proposal recommends procuring three new sweepers through an established public sector framework, with an estimated additional capital cost of £555,000.
