Spelthorne levels up fleet operations with new camera systems

Spelthorne Borough Council has introduced Fleetclear solutions to enhance the operations of its commercial waste management services.

Council-owned company, Spelthorne Direct Services (SDS), has begun using Fleetclear camera systems and Fleetclear Connect software following challenges accessing footage via its former system.

After trialling the cameras on one of its vehicles for six months, the new systems are now being used on a second vehicle to support data retrieval and analysis.

The systems will improve both footage clarity and the speed of footage retrieval, while the adoption of the Fleetclear Connect platform supports SDS’ broader aims of digitalising fleet operations.

Graham Boswell, Business Development Officer at SDS, said: ‘If we receive complaints about missed bin collections or alleged vehicle damage, it takes us only minutes to investigate and resolve the issue. The time we’re saving makes a huge difference, and the system itself is much easier to use.’

Alongside eliminating the need for manual downloads, the platform also streamlines reporting, analysis, and day-to-day fleet management.

The positive impact of the move has prompted the council to consider transitioning its whole waste fleet – consisting of 12 refuse collection vehicles, four small sweepers, and one large sweeper – to Fleetclear systems.

Jason Maddern, Head of Municipal at Fleetclear, added: ‘Our HGV and fleet video monitoring solutions camera systems are perfect for complete surveillance and for providing complete peace of mind for commercial operations.’
