Council urges better treatment for bin crews following lorry damage

Oldham Council has confirmed the damage caused to a refuse vehicle following an act of aggression from a member of the public.

The incident last week involved a resident smashing the window of one of the local authority’s bin wagons.

It took place while crews were completing their regular collection rounds, with images from the scene revealing that a large brick-like stone had been used to break the glass of the driver’s side window.

A council spokesperson said: ‘Our staff are working hard every day to deliver essential services for communities across the borough. These unacceptable actions not only put people at risk but also delay services for other residents.

‘Please treat our teams with respect as they work to keep our neighbourhoods clean, safe and well managed.’
