Somerset’s Digital Slinky Service expands with four new vehicles

Somerset Council has taken delivery of four new buses to support its Digital Slinky service.

A council statement on Monday confirmed that the vehicles will deliver ‘on demand’, flexible transport, with the buses having no set route.

According to the local authority, the fully accessible buses have a low-floor layout to allow for easier boarding, a wheelchair space, and a double-door entrance with wide access points that adapt better to the needs of wheelchair users.

The service also offers home pick-up arrangements for people with mobility issues who are unable to reach the designated pick-up points.

Travel can be booked up to an hour in advance on the service, which operates in areas around Taunton, Wellington, and Sedgemoor, while the non-digital Slinky Service is available in Mendip, West and South Somerset.
