Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has purchased 10 new refuse collection vehicles (RCVs) as part of its ongoing vehicle replacement scheme, with the additions intended to improve service delivery and long-term operational resilience across the borough.
The order comprises three 16-tonne units for use in rural areas and seven 26-tonne vehicles for broader route coverage. The new fleet is expected to reduce downtime and support a more sustainable approach to waste management, with full integration across the Borough’s service areas planned by early summer.
The investment also forms part of a wider programme to phase out older vehicles and introduce modern RCVs fitted with advanced safety technologies, aimed at reducing the risk of injuries and road traffic incidents for both staff and the public.
Commenting on the investment, Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Cllr Jackson Minford, said: ‘This investment ensures we can continue delivering a high standard of waste collection service to the public.
‘The addition of these new RCVs strengthens our fleet, supports our staff, and reflects our pledge of continuous improvement to all homes in Mid and East Antrim.’
The council said the new vehicles will support staff and reflect its commitment to continuous improvement in services delivered to households across Mid and East Antrim.
