Denbighshire CC rolls out new vehicles for childcare services

Denbighshire County Council has announced the addition of two new electric fleet vehicles to support a childcare centre in Rhyl.

The new service van and minibus will be introduced to help the Oak Tree Centre and are backed by funding from the Welsh Government Energy Service.

According to the council, the Fiat e-Scudo medium van with a 200+ mile driving range will be used by staff responsible for the centre’s Play Ranger Service, which ensures open access play opportunities are available to local communities.

Following this addition, the Play Ranger fleet will consist of three vans in total, allowing for the service to be broadened and delivered to further areas in the region.

The Toyota ProAce Verso 9 Seat Minibus will be used to assist children and staff in travelling to and from the site.

Staff will also be participating in an electric vehicle (EV) training package, equipping them with knowledge about how to use charging infrastructure, regenerative braking systems, and ‘driving mode’ according to conditions or payloads.

The move is part of the council’s wider efforts to move from using fossil fuel-powered vehicles in favour of EVs.

Paul Jackson, Head of Highways & Environmental Services, said: ‘The minibus and van will allow Oak Tree staff to maintain their provision of services to children and their families in Rhyl and the surrounding areas.

‘Both vehicles will provide greener mileage for the childcare centre and also lower long-term costs for miles and regular maintenance.’
