All new Dennis Eagle chassis to roll off the production line now have been equipped with Allison Transmission's Fuelsense2.0 Max technology.
Through a set of proprietary software enhancements, Fuelsense 2.0 provides an infinitely variable combination of shift points. Rather than relying on fixed points on a shift table, Fuelsense 2.0 uses a learning algorithm to continuously find the ideal balance of fuel economy and performance for the vehicle's duty cycle, helping it to operate more efficiently.
The technology offers potential fuel savings of around 6% against the demanding duty-cycles and stop-start nature of refuse collection applications.
New Dynactive Shifting uses an algorithm to choose the most efficient shift points from an infinite number of combinations based on customer specifications and engine fuel map, as well as vehicle and environmental parameters, while improved Neutral at Stop reduces the load on the engine during low-speed coasting, as well as when the vehicle is stationary, for further fuel savings.
In addition, enhanced Acceleration Rate Management helps to mitigate aggressive driving by automatically controlling engine torque, with five levels of control. Newly updated and exclusive to Fuelsense 2.0 Max, there is also the option to limit vehicle acceleration to a customised calibrated rate for more precise control.
As well as being available as standard on all new chassis, the technology can also be retrofitted to older models via Dennis Eagle or Allison's approved aftermarket network.
Ashley Brooks, Area Director at Allison Transmission, comments: 'Rather than relying on fixed points on a shift table, the learning algorithm used by Fuelsense 2.0 continuously finds the ideal balance for the duty-cycle, meaning vehicles operate as efficiently as possible at all times.
'Dennis Eagle customers will also benefit from the premium functionality of Fuelsense 2.0 Max, which offers the added advantages of fuel savings during low-speed coasting and custom Acceleration Rate Management'
Keith Day, Engineering Director at Dennis Eagle, comments: 'We are constantly seeking to help our customers get the best performance from our vehicles, and the reduction in fuel consumption offered by FuelSense 2.0 Max will help to ensure that their fleets continue to operate as efficiently as possible.
'It is perfectly suited to the stop-start nature of refuse collection, and also lends itself well to other fleet applications. This makes it an ideal solution for our Urban Safety Vehicle range, which includes products for the construction and logistics sectors. However, it's not just for new products, and anyone wishing to learn more about retrofitting options can contact us for further details'
