Denbighshire County Council has rolled out a bookable electric pool vehicle system to cut business travel costs and carbon emissions, following a successful pilot.
Staff who have completed the Fleet Service’s EV training can book Toyota Proace EV and Citroën ë-C3 vans online and collect them from Denbigh, St Asaph, Prestatyn and Llangollen. RFID readers on the dashboards support the system.
The council said the scheme offers staff an alternative to using their own, more likely fossil-fuelled, vehicles, saving wear and tear and mileage costs.
Zero-emission vehicles already make up more than 20% of its fleet.
Fleet mobility lead officer Martin Griffiths said the scheme provides ‘the best of both worlds’. Lead member for environment and transport Cllr James Elson added it would help ensure taxpayers receive better value for money.
