£2m+ delivered to boost North Yorkshire winter road maintenance

Over £2m is being invested in North Yorkshire Council’s winter maintenance fleet, as the local authority prepares to welcome 13 new vehicles ahead of the colder weather.

The cash boost of £2.43m will support the council’s procurement of eight 18-tonne tippers/gritters, three 18-tonne four-wheel-drive dedicated gritters and one 7.5-tonne permanently mounted tipper/gritter, as well as a 26-tonne hook-lift vehicle.

With the council’s current fleet consisting of ageing gritters, the move will ensure the local authority is equipped to deliver a reliable winter service and support road safety.

The new additions also fulfil the local authority’s operational requirements and meet the latest emissions standards.

They have been acquired through YPO’s Specialist Vehicles procurement framework, ensuring value for money and compliance, with the investment serving as part of the council’s seven-year vehicle replacement programme.

Ian Reed, YPO’s Fleet Category Lead, said: ‘The council’s investment in 13 winter maintenance vehicles is a strong example of how our procurement solutions can help keep roads safe while supporting environmental goals and meeting emissions standards for the council.’
