Wrexham Council will reportedly be trialling five new electric vans for one year.
The new vehicles are to join the council’s housing department, with the aim of advancing the local authority’s efforts to cut carbon emissions.
To support the 12-month trial, the council is in pursuit of suppliers or manufacturers for the electric vehicles, which will become part of a fleet that currently contains 91 diesel vans.
Vehicles included in the trial will preferably meet the ISO 1158-2 standard for Plug & Charge, or have the Auto Charge feature, according to Wrexham.com.
This will allow for automatic reconciliation and payment of vehicle charging costs, as well as ensuring that home chargers can differentiate between council-owned and personal vehicles.
Findings from the trial will be used to support decision-making about the council’s fleet in future.
