Thanet takes delivery of new waste collection fleet

Thanet District Council has taken delivery of eleven new open-back waste vehicles, offering significantly improved capacity and efficiency for collections across the district.

The new vehicles have a load capacity of almost 10 tonnes, compared to just over 6 tonnes for some of the fleet they are replacing, reducing the frequency of trips to the disposal site and saving time and mileage.

Cabinet Member for Operational Services Cllr Steve Albon said the vehicles will stay on the road longer before returning to the transfer station, making them more efficient in terms of both time and fuel, with the added benefit of reduced spillage and lower maintenance costs.

The new fleet is equipped with 360-degree camera systems, cyclist detection and warning technology, and rear steering to access more difficult roads. As all vehicles are now open-back, the entire fleet is interchangeable, improving resilience.
