Swansea Council is celebrating its recent success in electrifying its fleet vehicles.
Following a review of two reports on the council’s carbon reduction and climate-conscious efforts, the local authority has announced its progress across multiple areas, including:
- Electric vehicle adoption
- Energy security
- Staff engagement
- Community partnerships
- Building retrofit
- Climate adaptation
A key area of improvement was the expansion of the council’s electric fleet, which now includes 134 battery-operated vehicles, as well as increased charging infrastructure at 18 sites.
Further successes identified by the Climate Change and Nature Scrutiny Performance Panel were the council’s development of Swansea Project Zero (an online resource for climate information), the rollout of Climate Cafes, and the local authority’s consistency in delivering a 30-point cutting carbon action plan.
Cllr Rebecca Fogarty, Cabinet Member for Community Support, said: ‘Growing our electric vehicle fleet is an important part of reducing the council’s carbon emissions while continuing to deliver essential services across Swansea.
‘We’ll continue to explore opportunities to expand the use of cleaner vehicles where it’s practical to do so, supporting our wider commitment to tackling climate change.’
