Nottinghamshire County Council has taken delivery of two specialist JCB Pothole Pro machines, the latest step in a £181.25m investment in the county’s roads.
The three-in-one machines, leased for 12 months from commercial asset supplier Dawsongroup, will begin work next week delivering first-time permanent repairs through the council’s highways partner, Via East Midlands. They join eight repair teams already working across the county.
Each machine combines cutting, cropping and cleaning in a single visit, reducing time on each repair, minimising road closures and cutting the likelihood of repeat call-outs to the same location.
Council leader Cllr Mick Barton said the machines marked ‘a significant step forward’ in the council’s permanent repair programme, adding he was confident residents would ‘see a vast improvement in the condition of our roads by the end of the summer.’
Cabinet member for transport Cllr Bert Bingham said the technology would help teams carry out repairs to a consistently high standard, adding: ‘This is about building a resilient and well-maintained road network for the future.’
The machines were procured through a tendering process carried out by Via and will be evaluated for value for money alongside more traditional repair methods.
