‘Lord of the Onion Rings’ hits Luton’s streets

Luton students have drawn inspiration from an epic fantasy franchise to help name one of the council’s bin lorries.

A competition has seen Luton Council name one of its bin lorries ‘Lord of the Onion Rings’, with a class of students from a local high school having proposed the winning moniker.

‘Spud Lightyear’ has been selected as a further winning entry, after being submitted by primary school students in the area.

The new names have been displayed on the local authority’s vehicles and will now be visible while the lorries complete their rounds.

Mr Rowles, assistant headteacher, told Luton Today: ‘We are incredibly proud that our Year 11 students won this competition.

‘‘Lord of the Onion Rings’ is a brilliant name that shows the creativity and sense of humour of our students. The win is particularly meaningful because it links so well with the environmental work we have been carrying out throughout the year.’
