North Yorkshire Council, sole shareholder of NY Highways Limited, has awarded a seven-year lease contract to Econ Engineering Limited to replace ageing winter maintenance vehicles.
The procurement covers 13 vehicles, including eight 18-tonne QCB tippers/gritters, three 18-tonne 4×4 dedicated gritters, one 26-tonne hook lift and one 7.5-tonne permanently mounted tipper/gritter.
The vehicles were sourced via the YPO Purchase, Lease and Hire of Specialist Vehicles Framework.
Leasing was chosen over purchasing as the preferred option on both budget and operational grounds. The lease will cost £346,924.76 plus VAT per year, bringing the total contract value to £2,428,473.32 plus VAT over its seven-year term.
The new fleet is intended to replace vehicles reaching the end of their service life, ensuring NY Highways can maintain reliable, fit-for-purpose equipment for winter road maintenance across North Yorkshire, while meeting environmental and regulatory standards.
