Barking and Dagenham Council has invested in its parking enforcement fleet, which now boasts 20 new low-emission scooters.
Following the addition of the Lexmoto Aura 125 scooters, the local authority expects the fleet to provide improved patrol coverage compared to the performance of the previous ageing moped vehicles.
According to the council, the 2019 mopeds had called for growing maintenance requirements and downtime, limiting the efficiency of the parking enforcement team’s work.
The greener scooters will deliver a host of benefits, including reduced emissions and better fuel efficiency, as well as improving value for money.
Furthermore, the increase in the number of operational vehicles will enable the introduction of additional officers to the team, resulting in more comprehensive patrol coverage across the borough and boosted ‘visibility of enforcement activity’.
In a statement published yesterday, the council said that the move will support the team in speeding up their response times to complaints and parking issues, while also advancing the local authority’s environmental goals.
Cllr Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety, said: ‘Investing in a modern and reliable fleet will help our Parking Enforcement Team continue to provide an effective service for residents across the borough.
‘These new scooters are not only more environmentally friendly and cost-effective to run, but they will also help officers respond more quickly to parking concerns.’
