Bucher Municipal submits expansion plans

Bucher Municipal, a leading supplier of road sweepers to local authority fleets, has submitted planning applications for a significant multi-phase expansion of its manufacturing site in Dorking, Surrey.

The proposals comprise two linked schemes: the previously announced construction of a 12,621 sq.m state-of-the-art manufacturing building, involving the demolition of five outdated units, and a newly submitted application for an additional 2,572 sq.m facility on the adjacent former Carville Plastics site on Station Road.

Together, the schemes aim to increase production capacity, modernise manufacturing processes, and improve sustainability performance, with the original application targeting a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating.

The expanded site would also enhance welfare and office facilities for the company’s approximately 480 Dorking-based staff.

Bucher Municipal, formerly Johnston Sweepers, has manufactured in Dorking since 1924 and exports its truck-mounted sweepers — widely used by UK councils — to more than 80 countries worldwide.
