In May, Somerset Council, a unitary authority, passed on several functions to Bridgwater Town Council, including street cleansing, road sweeping and the management of open spaces.
The chair of Bridgwater’s environment committee, Kathy Pearce, said: ‘By utilising these 100% EVs, our town council’s open spaces team can now maintain the town more efficiently and sustainably, helping to reduce our carbon footprint.’
The council said the new Maxus 3 vehicles aligned with its ‘ongoing commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmentally friendly practices within the community’.
Amenities committee chair Tim Mander said: ‘These new electric vehicles are a very welcome addition to our fleet of vehicles that I’m sure will serve the council for many years to come.’
