Vehicle safety specialists Sentinel Systems has fitted rear, forward and side-scan cameras and an LED cyclist warning sign to more than 20 vehicles for RVS.
The four cameras offer drivers a clear view of the vehicle's blind spot and are connected to an in-cab monitor and footage is recorded by a DVR for up to 30 days, allowing RVS and its customers to use the footage to deal with any incidents.
Spencer Law, managing director at RVS, said: 'We know how important it is for our customers to have safety equipment as part of their vehicles.
'Sentinel offers a full range of camera systems to suit refuse and recycling vehicles and other HGV markets which is such a help for the drivers who have to drive in congested areas.
'We decided to install safety cameras for a number of reasons, the main one being driver protection. Installing cameras assists in identifying and helping to reduce any potential risks posed by other road users and provides evidence should a vehicle be involved in an incident where liability is disputed.
'We would definitely consider installing more of Sentinel's camera systems on further refuse and recycling vehicles for both our customers and hire fleet in the future'
The cameras not only reduce the risk of any damage to the vehicle, but also lower the risks of injury to personnel and helps drivers manoeuvring in tight areas.
RVS also chose to install Sentinel's LED cycle sign onto the vehicles to provide extra protection for vulnerable cyclists. The sign is a sturdy and robust design with ultra-bright LEDs giving cyclists approaching the rear of the vehicle a clear warning that the vehicle is about to turn left.
