Fareham Borough Council has bought 10 walk-behind broadcast salt spreaders ahead of winter.

The salt spreaders will be used to help the Hampshire authority meet its winter resilience plans, keeping pedestrian areas free from snow and ice.

They replace ageing versions that had come to the end of their economic working lives.

Known as the ‘Hotshot’, the salt spreader is made by winter maintenance firm Meyer, which is part of Aebi Schmit – a company the council has worked with for the past three years.

Fareham's transport manager, Paul Stanley, said: ‘We have a number of council-controlled cycleways, pathways and other pedestrianised areas which may not be readily accessible to larger scale equipment.

‘But the Hotshot is perfect for keeping them snow and ice free of ice during the winter months.’
