The plan prioritises primary and secondary routes, as well as priority one and two pavements and cycleways, to ensure safe travel during adverse weather conditions.

Additional funding will be allocated if winter conditions are more severe than anticipated.

Cllr Ian Yuill, co-leader of the council, emphasised the importance of preparedness, stating, ‘It’s good to hear that our gritting services are ready for the oncoming winter, whatever weather it will throw at us. Our staff cannot be everywhere at once but they do go above and beyond to ensure the city’s key roads and pavements are kept gritted according to the agreed prioritised plan.’

Cllr Miranda Radley, vice-convener of the Net Zero, Environment and Transport Committee, highlighted community involvement, noting that residents can apply for free one-tonne salt bags and access large-capacity grit bins at various locations.
