Wrexham County Borough Council is testing the market for electric vehicle home charging solutions, as it looks at options for decarbonising its fleet of council vehicles.
A notice published on the Sell2Wales procurement portal explains that the council currently runs a fleet of diesel vans used by its Direct Labour Organisation to carry out repairs and maintenance across its housing portfolio of more than 11,000 properties, and is exploring whether EV chargers could be installed at employees’ homes as it considers a switch to electric vehicles.
Cllr David A Bithell, the council’s lead member for decarbonisation, said the exercise would help determine what options are available given existing constraints on grid capacity and depot storage space. He said any resulting pilot would involve a small number of Housing Department vehicles, with the results expected to shape decisions for other council services going forward.
